Projects of late...Plus our baby girl gets a name :)

A few weeks ago Mom sent me some awesome jersey knit fabric that we spotted in Hobby Lobby when I was there for Meagan's wedding. I used it to make a nursing shawl, and then had plenty left over to make a cute little dress/shirt for baby girl. I love when the ideas I have in my head actually turn out pretty cute (I mean picture this on a hopefully chubby girl with gray leggings...how can I not smile haha) :) I cannot wait for this little girl to arrive! Only 7 more weeks :).

A few weeks back in Hobby Lobby, I also met a girl who started a conversation with me about my diaper bag, and said she had too just moved from Texas not long ago and she loved to sew.  She told me we should get together to sew sometime because all the sewing groups she went to were with old ladies who had equally old style tastes lol.  I finally called her up, went to her house to sew, and she had this amazing embroidery machine and helped me make some of these cute bibs :).  Plus Keisha and I are planning to sew again sometime. Yay for new friends!

Yup!! We decided that our little girl's name is Lyla :). We are certain, so we thought it was time to share!

Memorial Day Festivities!

Boy oh boy!  We had one great day!  I love love love when Utah's weather starts to get nice.  It is seriously, my favorite.  Camping, trips to the park, and hiking, here we come!  Well today was Memorial Day.  Since the weather was nice, we decided to go on a hike.  And we took our favorite Meagan with us, since her hubs had to work.  We had such a great time!

We got a fantastic baby backpack from Lynette & Bart.  Seriously, this thing was awesome.  Connor LOVED it so much.  He couldn't be happier.  I was pleasantly surprised that he enjoyed it as much as he did.  Thanks Lynette & Bart!

See... one happy baby!

We ate some delicious lunch.

I have some adventurous boys in my life, don't I?  I am one lucky lady!

Yeah... modest isn't hottest. I think I proved that today with the sunburn I got! :-P Maybe next time I'll wear some sleeves so I don't get crispy shoulders! (serves me right!)

We made it!

Connor had a little dip in the stream at the top.  He didn't mind it.  The water was SO COLD though!  I'm sure his sweaty little feet-ies loved the chilliness!

Connor faked us out.  We thought he was going to walk to Meagan, so I got the camera out and took a photo.  Then he sat down. Haha.  What a silly baby.  He is just not ready to start crusin' I guess.  That's ok, he'll start walking when he wants.

We definitely enjoyed out hike.  The fresh air was nice and it was great to be active!

**Tyler and I also finished planting our garden!  A few weeks back, Tyler made our garden boxes (2) into a big garden box (1).  I am so glad he did!  There is so much more space now!  He did a great job.  (I am so glad that I have a man in my life that can fix/make almost anything! It is SUPER CONVENIENT! I have Dad to thank for that!)

We planted zucchini, tomatoes, peppers (hot & bell), lots of lettuces, kale, spinach, carrots, beets, some herbs, strawberries and some green beans! **we still need to put up the trellis for the green beans.  Hopefully we will get some good crops this year!  I am so excited to see how the garden grows!

Tyler is so proud of his handy work!

Blueberry Farm

Owen & Jacob had a preschool field trip to the Blueberry Farm this week.  I just love that place!  They had fun picking the blueberries and watching the chickens and pigs in their coops.  After we paid for the blueberries I finally let the boys eat one.  Jacob made a face the entire time like he wasn't sure if he liked it or not.  Owen put his in his mouth and immediately spit it back out onto the ground! I guess they take after their mom and don't care for fresh blueberries. :)

The Ducklings

Landon has a pretty awesome Kindergarten teacher! One of the coolest things this year were the baby ducklings.  They had 6 eggs in an incubator in the classroom they got to watch rotate and get warmed, and then the baby ducklings hatch.  (Unfortunately they hatched during non-school hours!)  The kids had so much fun with the little ducklings.  One of Landon's favorite things was watching them take their first bath.  I must admit, I'm crazy jealous of all the fun they had with the ducklings!  What a fun Kindergarten class!!!

Mommy's Little Helper!

Connor found the clean laundry basket today.  He decided it was a good place to watch his Yo Gabba Gabba.  :)

I loved it! He was so proud of himself. What a sweety-petey!

Garage Sale Fab Find!

High chairs, high chairs, high chairs.

The other day when I found Connor in his Bumbo, he had turned himself upside down and was trying to crawl out of it with the tray on.  It didn't work out so well for him, but it gave me a good laugh.  Needless to say, we have been in need of a new high chair.

The one we found was an Eddie Bauer high chair, that is usually sold at Target.  I've been wanting one like this for a long time, but at 130$ originally, I couldn't bring myself to make the purchase.  When I saw this beauty on the side of the road, it wasn't so beautiful.  It was DIRTY and it was a very country bumkin red.  The previous owners had refinished it to suit their tastes.  It wasn't our style, so we decided to refinish it. It turned out really cute.

We did a blue paint called "Embellished Blue" and then did a nice clear gloss.

Connor LOVES it!  Tyler took off the tray when Connor was in the chair, and he started yelling at Tyler.  It was so funny how mad he got.  He knows that this is HIS chair. :) I'm so glad he likes it!

Connor had his first delicious meal in his new high chair.  It was SPAGHETTI! Yum!  He loved being able to feed himself so much.  What a sweet little messy face! It melts my heart!

Projects Projects Projects!

I have about 2 weeks in between semesters. WOOHOO! I love it! And that means I have time to do some projects that I've been waiting to do!  Here are some of the projects that I have done.

We painted our walls in the living room.  Tyler wanted grey and I wanted dark so we settled on this darkish grey.  It looks SO nice in our living room.  I love it because it separates the living room from the kitchen.  It is nice to have 2 distinct areas.

We decided to just decorate that ugly hole above our fireplace.  I was racking my brain as to how I would cover up such a HUGE hole, and then ultimately decided it wasn't worth the trouble.  I am so glad that I chose not to cover it up!  I love how it turned out.  We painted the back a lighter grey than the rest of the walls.  Then I took a stencil and drew on the Moroccan style pattern.  And free hand painted the design with a silver metallic paint from the Martha Stewart Living line.  I couldn't be more pleased with it.

We also moved our large clock onto the wall that the mirror was on.  We are planning to mount the TV and get a refinished dresser to put under it.  (NO MORE baby finger prints on the TV YAY!) I haven't found the right piece yet.

It feels so nice to have some color on the walls, besides taupe! I love it!  I was always jealous of the color on Meagan's walls.  Now I'm in the cool club too!

I will be posting more projects in the next few days.  I have some things I am still working on.  We went to the Daybreak Garage Sales on Saturday and got some AMAZING stuff! We got a pair of nice lamps, a new high chair (one of my projects), some snazzy new baby clothes for Connor {I know what you are thinking, GROSS, but they were in such good condition and they were mostly from Baby Gap so don't judge me :)}, a new electric sander (to make doing projects easier, yay!) and some other things.  We got a ton of loot! We totally scored.  I will definitely be going to the Daybreak Sales again!  Anyway- until next time! love you all!

Mother's Day Shopping

So I know that I already posted one of these pictures on facebook, but my new chair is so pretty I thought I would post a picture of just it as well :).  I'm soooo excited! I thought for our budget we were only going to find like the most hideous disaster of a recliner rocker but I looove my new chair! I'm warming it up for little baby girl :).

So Mckay loved the furniture place we bought the chair at because they brought him a huge red balloon, and then he got to pick out a free stuffed exclamation mark (their logo).  He adores that dumb thing and hauls it around calling it his Squishy :).  He also tries to push me out of my recliner every time I'm sitting there to claim the seat as his own haha.

Date Night- Looper

So this week we put Mckay to bed and just snuggled up to watch the edited version of Looper that we just bought.  I have to say, it wasn't what I was expecting, but Wes and I enjoyed it none the less and it was wonderful to just cuddle and relax at the end of a busy week :)  I love date nights!

What We're Eating

Here's our menu for the week:

Thurs - Grilled burgers, fries

Fri - Hamburger helper

Sat - Chicken Pizza Primavera

Mon - Fish Tacos, Brazilian lemonade

Baking With the Boys

Jacob was in charge of snacks for FHE last night so I had him and Owen help me make some Ritz/Rolo bites.  I gave each boy a stack of crackers and showed them how to put them on the pan.  About halfway through his stack, Jacob decided to take a bite out of one.  The look on Owen's face was priceless! His jaw literally dropped and he gasped and looked at me with this shocked, speechless expression.  I laughed and told him it was okay if he ate a cracker, too.

Next came the chocolates. The first Rolo Jacob unwrapped went straight into his mouth.  Each time he'd unwrap one I could see the wheels turning in his head, should I eat it or put it down?  Luckily the caramel slowed him down so he still managed to get some onto the crackers.  He just kept saying, "Mmm, this is delicious chocolate, Mommy!!"  I kept telling Owen he could eat one, but he was adamant that he cover all the crackers first.  Finally at the end he allowed himself to eat one. :)

These boys can make me absolutely batty sometimes, okay, most of the time, but then there are moments like this that make my heart happy.

S'mores Date Night at Home

First off, can I just say how much I love all the blogging going on lately? I feel like I actually kind of know what's going on in everyone's life and it's so much fun since we don't live close to anyone! Now if we could just figure out how to get mom to post... :).

Anywho, Wes and I used to do date nights at home for a bit when Mckay was little after we were inspired by all the fun Marie and Colby were having with it, but we could never think of ideas on the spot so they faded quickly.  Now more than ever with the summer being crazy and Wes working more, I feel like we need some alone time to spend together. We sat down and made up a huge list of fun, inexpensive, and most importantly little-prep-needed date-at-home ideas (with a little help from pinterest), so now we just pick one out on Thursday and plan to do it either Friday or Saturday Night.  I find that having an intentional slice of time planned out after Mckay goes to bed makes it really feel like a special time for us together.

So last night was the first of many to come, and we made s'mores over our stove and asked each other "newlywed game" questions we found online.  It was sooo much fun! And yummy of course :).

Roasting over the open fire...sort of :). Big bellies love Mallows!

Delicious

I'm not even ashamed because they were so good :)
We both had such a fun time, and even though normally we are boring and tired by the time Mckay goes to bed, we were giggling and enjoying ourselves.  I absolutely love Wes and I love being married :).

As a side note, my diamond is loose on my wedding ring so I had to send it in to get fixed.  I had mentioned that my finger felt so naked without it, so Wes bought me a pretty little $5 place holder :).  I made him take this picture even though he thought it was silly haha.

Dinner Menu

Dinners:
1. Chicken pad Thai with salad
2. Chicken enchiladas (double recipe for freezing) with chips and salsa
3. Hamburgers and fries
4. Easy Philly cheesesteaks with veggies and dip (I love these! more like a french dip than philly cheese stake but sooooo yummy)
5. Crockpot Corn chowder with rolls

Breakfast:

So I obviously made those muffins this morning for breakfast, and yes the pictures are how mine actually turned out! They were so delicious! I was so excited because I haven't had one of these muffins in a long time and it totally satisfied my craving.  Even Mckay liked them and asked for "more cupcake" after he finished his haha. The only ingredient I didn't have was the wheat bran which proved to be inexpensive and not hard to find.  If by chance you ever decide to make these, just make sure to cook them less time than she says.  I cooked mine for 15 minutes and they were perfect!

Phelps Family Photos 5/4/2013

Hey Guys! We just got some family photos done this morning.  We LOVE how they turned out! Hope you like them too! Enjoy!

I'm biased, but I think we are one good looking family!  I love that we are able to get family photos.  It is so special and I look forward to having these in the future, looking back at them and seeing how much we have each grown and changed. :)

By the way- if you would like a copy of them, text me or let me know and I will send you the link for them on Google Drive!
